The Municipal Airport of Sitia “Vitsentzos Kornaros” is located in the Mponta area of the Municipality of Sitia, about 1 kilometer northwest of the city center. The airport took its name from the Cretan poet Vitsentzos Kornaros, who was born in Sitia and was the main representative of Cretan literature.

The airport was inaugurated in 1984, but in 2015 it was refurbished and expanded. It can accommodate small and medium sized planes, as it can serve charter flights and private aircraft flights. Scheduled flights take place all year from Sitia’s airport towards Athens, Heraklion, Alexandroupolis, Preveza, Rhodes. In summer, traffic of airplanes is increased due to charter flights and extra flights to the interior of the country and abroad.
