The town of Kissamos or Kasteli, as it is called, is located in northwestern Crete, between the peninsula of Gramvousa and Rodopos, and is encircled by the homonymous bay.

It is built in the same place with the ancient Kissamos, which was the port of the oldest Doric city of Crete, Polyrhynnia. Kissamos experienced a special flourish during the Roman and Byzantine periods, according to excavations that became and the archaeological relics that were found. During the Venetian period, the city was fortified with the construction of walls and a fortress. Due to this fortress, the city is also named Kasteli. At the Ottoman domination, the city contributes decisively to the liberation of Crete and its union with the rest of Greece.

Furthermore, with a rental car, you can head towards the enchanting beach of Falassarna, or take a trip to the exotic beach of Elafonissi with the unique Kedrodasos, through a very beautiful route, crossing the imposing gorge of Topolia.
